Fun with Netflix (part 3)
Newest rentals on top. The “DF”s mean that I didn’t finish the movie. You’ll see that there are, uh, a lot of those.
16 Blocks, 2006: Good example of a “Netflix worthy” film.
Broken Flowers, 2005: “It’s basically Lost In Translation” - my brother. DF.
Borat, 2006: Lots of good and bad. Could’ve done without the polaroids.
Junebug, 2005: DF. Hilarious paintings, though.
Saved!, 2004: “Of course he’s White!”
The Heart of the Game, 2005: I had this on the queue for so long, you don’t understand.
The Sum of All Fears, 2002: DF.
What About Bob?, 1991: More salad, Bob? Yes, please. Pile it high and deep.
Van Helsing, 2004: Not only was this just terrible but they made a complete mockery of the Kate Beckinsale character.
Babel, 2006: I didn’t necessarily agree with the reviews that said this “makes Crash look like an undergraduate course on race-relations” but good nonetheless.
The Good Girl, 2002: Jake and Jennifer deliver.
All I Want, 2002: I’m an Elijah fan but come on, this is all over the place. Unbelievable racial stereotypes in this. Unbelievable.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: The Third Year: Disc 1, 1999: Waiting for the newer seasons to release.
The Motel, 2005: No comment. Almost a DF.
Quinceanera, 2005: Pay full price.
Invincible, 2006: Vince Papale vaults to the Eagles and also raises the state minimum wage, increases medical coverage!
Dreamland, 2006: Surprisingly good. Poetry doesn’t translate well onto film sometimes, but it does here.
Prey, 2006: They’re lions and they’re bloodthirsty! DF
Inside Man, 2006: Another hit.
The Triangle: Disc 1, 2005: Ugh. DF.
March of the Penguins, 2004: This is actually a DF that I regret. I need to queue it again.
Waiting…, 2005: Homophobia off the charts here.
Pieces of April, 2003: I actually liked it.
Little Miss Sunshine, 2006: Hard to say with all the hype around it. It wasn’t bad.
American Psycho, 2000: There are some movies and some stories that really don’t need to be made. A little dissappointed in Christian Bale here. DF.
The 40-Year-Old Virgin, 2005: I liked how after this movie came out, all the local news places started to find real life 30+ male virgins because, you know, that’s a news story.
Miami Vice, 2006: Gritty?
Best of the Best, 1989: One of my favorite movies as a kid. First time I saw what I thought to be a Korean American on film in a positive role.
Spun, 2003: Trainwreck.
Best of the Best 3 & 4, 1993: I guess I should’ve just gone with 2.
Jackass: Number Two, 2006: You could write a pretty good essay on the sexual and gender politics on some of their “stunts.”
Dirty Pretty Things, 2002: Pretty brutal at points.
A Civil Action, 1998: Socially defined identities, holla.
Closer, 2004: One of the definitive DFs. One can only take so much of Clive Owen saying “you dirty cunt, you dirty fucking whore.”
Equilibrium, 2002: Didn’t go for the Matrix full-count bases loaded grand-slam and it works because of it.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, 2004: Reminded me of an old Batman TAS episode. DF.
The Da Vinci Code, 2006: Complete distortion or not, fun!
Brokeback Mountain, 2005: Finally got around to seeing it. “Love is a force of nature” is the best tagline ever.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, 2006: 2 stars.
Scoop, 2006: At this point, I said no more Woody Allen movies.
The Last Kiss, 2006: Ugh.
Rushmore, 1998: Unit 4 + 2’s “Concrete and Clay” is a terrific song.
Sidewalks of New York, 2000: 1/4 of this movie was about stalking.
Match Point, 2005: This movie is why I had a hard time with Scoop, despite Scoop being more of a comedy. How many movies do we have to have of men killing women?
The King of Queens: Season 5: Disc 1, 2002: I know. But at least I didn’t queue the other discs?
Lord of War, 2005: You know, I didn’t know that Yuri’s brother…what’s his name, ahh Jared Leto was the lead singer of that band?
