I trust cops about as far as I can throw them. I have very little upper body strength. You do the math.

So I can't say as I'm surprised. Disgusted, always. But not surprised.

I haven't had much experience with police but I don't deny that a lot of folks, women in particular, have had not too good exeriences...which makes it the absolute worst part because things like police/police station, teacher/a school are people/places we should be able to trust and be safe at but a lot of the times they're the exact opposite. I will never forget the class where we read about sexual assault that goes on in high, middle and even elementary schools to girls by their male classmates and it goes marked as "bullying" or isolated incidents of "troubled kids."

"think of what I could've done" and then the old "hey, I don't beat women, I don't rape women...(I don't have any stake in ending violence against women)"

My limited experience with police officers certainly hasn't made me inclined to trust them...
And some of my friend's experiences that they've told me about are much worse... And it seems like every day in the news there's a new story of some horrible act committed by cops...
And those are only the ones you HEAR about, so you can bet your ass there are hundreds more that you NEVER hear about...
So all I'm saying is that I'm scared of the police, and I wouldn't go to them for help unless I truly had no other choice.
And you're completely right about guys getting a pat on the back for doing the Less Bad thing. A lot of guys internalize that and think "Hey, I'm a good person - think what I COULD have done."
